The Q&A Archives: Crepe Myrtle

Question: I have 4 red crepe myrtle shrubs, and they keep getting sooty mold, I have been spraying with Insecticidal soap on all surfaces, but it hasn't helped very much.

Thank you for any suggestions as I would like to keep these myrtles

Answer: Insecticidal soaps work well against aphids but you need repeated treatments to kill off the newly arriving pests. If you are not opposed to using other chemicals, Ortho Systemic Insect Killer or Bayer Tree and Shrub insect control are excellent and there is some residual effect so you won't need to treat as often. Good luck with your crepe myrtles.
