| Hello, I live in Santa Monica, CA and just bought Maiden Grass for a pot, in full sun. I havnt transplanted it yet, but the tips are already brown and its all very dry looking. The bottom half of the plant still seems to be in good shape, and I water it twice a week...is now a good time to repot it and can it live a healthy life in a well drained pot and how often should I water? | You can plant your Maiden Grass in a large container - it can eventually grow about 3 1/2 feet tall and wide. It will grow best in sun but will adapt to partial shade and it likes soil on the dry side. In fact, watering twice a week might be excessive unless it is in a very small pot now. I would fill the container with a good grade of potting soil and plant the Maiden Grass now. Water it well and then allow the top of the soil to dry out between waterings. Too much water can make the plant wilty and the tips of the blades turn brown. A few weeks after planting you can cut away any dead blades and new ones will appear. Enjoy! |
