| My Japanese andromeda is about seven feet high and getting very leggy. I would like to prune it back about 30% as I have very successfully done in the past with my rhododendrons. Can this be done and if so, when? It is in a spot that does not see real sun till mid-afternoon. |
| Pieris, or Japanese andromeda will take any amount of pruning but it develops flower buds on new growth for next season so you'll want to prune as soon after flowering as possible. You can prune yours back by about one third. If you need to prune more, do it over a period of 2-3 years so as not to stress your plant too much. Good luck with your pruning project! |
