| Only two candidates come to mind - Mountain Laurel (Sophora secundiflora) which is actually a large shrub but is often trained as a single trunked tree. It has fragrant purple flowers in the spring. The second is a small tree, usually to 12' tall, called Bauhinia Orchid tree. The flowers are purple and white, just like an orchid.
