| Within a week my squash plant were attacked with a small white bug wich left a sticky residue and there are ants in the garden. Can you tell me how to get rid of them. |
| The white bugs were either aphids or whiteflies. When they feed they exude a sticky substance called honeydew which is a magnet for ants. Whiteflies are difficult to control because they fly away when disturbed but if you make applications of insecticidal soap, you can get most of them. Spray in the early morning or early evening when they are resting on the leaves. Insecticidal soap will also help control aphids. Now that the ants are there, try discouraging them by hosing off the plants periodically to rinse away the honeydew. Without the sticky sweet substance, the ants should go elsewhere.
