A lamp post garden typically contains a climbing plant. You might consider placing something in the center for a vining plant to climb, just to give height to the garden. Or, setting a half whiskey barrel in the center so a climbing plant can trail over the sides. Some plants you might choose include Jackmanii Clematis, Black Eyed Susans, Pink Coneflowers and a low growing or creeping plant such as verbena, creeping rosemary or creeping thyme. The plant choices are endless. For eye appeal, choose your favorite colors and plant an odd number (3,5,7) spaced throughout the bed. Best wishes with your new garden!
