| So, if I don't cut them back and leave them alone next year, will they bloom? I purchased this hydranga at home depot and it has always had big leaves and grown, but never bloomed. I was told last year that it takes a year to establish and this year I was told to cut them back in the spring. |
| As long as the old wood is not damaged over the winter months, your hydrangeas should bloom next spring. I usually prune mine back in early spring just as the buds begin to swell on the stems, down to about 18" (or knee high). This leaves enough old wood that new flowering shoots will emerge and the plant always blooms in late spring or early summer. Hope this works for you, too. |
