The Q&A Archives: shrubs to showcase a strong victorian porch

Question: I have a strong stone victorian porch in new england. I want to showcase it with some kind of anchor. I was thinking a shrub trimmed somehow.

Answer: Topiaries might be what you're looking for, or a dense growing evergreen with a mounded shape might work for you. The most commonly available topiaries are junipers and Eugenia and they are often pruned into spirals or pom poms. Or, there are lots of other shrubs you can try. For shade try rhododendrons, azaleas, holly or mountain laurels. For full sun try potentilla, junipers, arborvitae and spirea. Check your local nurseries for the best selections. Enjoy!
