Spring and fall are the best times to reseed lawns. If you sow seed and then cover them with a thin layer of compost or peat moss, and keep them watered often enough to keep them constantly moist, the seeds will sprout in 7-10 days. If the seeds dry out while they are trying to sprout, they will die. So wait until this fall when temperatures are cooler and your new seed should sprout right away.
