we recently removed pyricantha (over-grown and unmanageable) from our west facing house side. would like to plant several 4 ft. high/ 2 -3 ft. wide evergreen shrubs in it's place. The strong west sun is daunting - what do you suggest? Thank you

Some suggestions for the site include Ilex glabra Densa - Inkberry Holly Dense upright rounded native evergreen shrub growing to 8' tall. Dwarf varieties are available. Yew (Taxus spp.) - Yews make great evergreen backdrops with their soft needles and fine texture. Osmanthus 'Kembu' (Kembu Variegated Osmanthus) Has narrow, "puckered" dark-green leaves with white variegation. Forms a dense, low mounded shrub of about 2' by 2'. Evergreen, prickly leaf similar to that of holly.

Hope one of these is just right for your landscape.
