A few of my tomato plants leaves turned yellow and died but the top of the plant is growing and producing what could be wrong.

It's normal for the lower leaves of tomato plants to turn yellow and you can simply pinch or cut them off the plant. As long as the plants are putting out new growth, there's nothing to be concerned about. The lower leaves are the oldest and once they've served their purpose, the plant drops them in favor of producing healthy new leaves. Best wishes with your tomatoes!
