The Q&A Archives: drooping orchid stem

Question: My phals have beautiful flowers on them, but the shorter of the two plants is beginning to droop. Not the flowers, but the stem on which the flowers are growing. I don't know how to fix it? Thanks for your wonderful advice in the past! Patti (LI, NY)

Answer: Sometimes the flowers are so heavy that the wiry stem just cannot remain upright. I'd place a stake in the pot and gently tie the stem to the stake. I use bamboo skewers for my orchids and little twist ties. Hope this works for you, too!
