The Q&A Archives: hydrangeas

Question: any reason my hydrangeas started turning brown so early this year. i cut them back over the winter and they seemed happy enough this spring, but flowers are browning.

Answer: Water stress and wind burn are the two most common reasons for premature browning of the flowers. There's an off chance that a fungal disease might be causing the browning so double check your plant to make sure it looks healthy and the flowers are not wilting. If they are, cut them off to stop the spread of any disease. Wish I had more suggestions to offer.
