| I made the mistake of planting broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprout seedlings at the end of May. I understand it is too late for such cool-season vegetables. I am just now starting to see the heads emerge, but we are now into the mid 80s to high 90s weather. Should I dig them up and try again for fall so they are maturing in cool weather? Or do they have any chance? Some of the cauliflower already has bolted. Also, I just planted seedlings of Brussels sprouts and cauliflower for a fall harvest. Is it too late to start broccoli with seeds? |
| Let the first round of cole crops go, and focus on your fall garden. Broccoli generally matures more quickly than cauliflower, and certainly before Brussels sprouts, so plant away! Mulch the soil to moderate soil temperatures, and conserve moisture. If days are really scorching, provide shade for these cool-season crops with shade netting. Hope this helps! |
