| I have a healthy looking Trumpet vine and David Austin rose which have never bloomed, can you tell me why? The plants appear healthy in all respects except they don't bloom. We are a zone 5a.plants get south east exposure. Both are planted along a shed. |
| Roses need full sunshine all day in order to blossom. If yours isn't getting at least 8 hours of direct sunshine, it will grow wonderfully, but will not produce flowers. You may have to move you rose to a sunnier bed. When you prune in the spring, cut the old canes back to an outward facing bud so new flowering canes will develop. Try to keep the center of the plant open to facilitate good air circulation and good light penetration. Trumpet Vine (Campsis) will grow in full sunshine to partial shade, but it doesn't sound as though yours is getting quite enough direct sunshine. Pruning practices will also affect the flowering of plants; make sure you're not accidentally cutting off the flower buds when you prune your Trumpet Vine. |
