I don't have gutters/leaders on my cottage(only extra roof over hang)when it rains hard puddles form in my garden beds drowning out many of my plants especially the annuals. Is there an in expensive way of fixing the problem?

Without gutters, you won't be able to redirect the runoff. There's no really simple solution to the problem and I honestly think that gutters are the best way to go.
