Can I plant a barrel cactus this time of year? I live in the Phoenix area. We are having the hottest July on record. The plant will get a little water everyday. It will be in the sun about half the day.

If you can wait until the weather cools in September your cactus will have a better chance of adjusting to its new spot in the garden. If you must plant right away, at least wait for a monsoon to arrive and plant it just before or after the rain. A cloudy day will help it settle in before it has to endure the intense sunshine.
