I am confused. On one page you said to cut back by 1/3 after flowering and on another page back to the base? What is best? I vote to cut back by 1/3 ! Thanks. |
There are lots of different kinds of lilies so cutting them back depends upon which type you are growing. Oriental Lilies should be left alone until the tops die down on their own. You can certainly cut the spent flowers off, but leave the main stalks and leaves alone. They are busy manufacturing carbohydrates for the bulbs which will be stored for next year's growth. Daylilies can stand a little trimming and you can safely cut off the spend flower stalks. Hope this clarifies things for you! |
