My two Brugmansia standards are dropping leaves and have spotty yellowing. There is no sign of srider mite but there are strange looking flies with irredescant wings hanging out on them. Any suggestions?

Brugmansia leaves do yellow and mottle regularly, usually due to cultural conditions rather than insect problems. It's important to water the plants so the soil stays moist but it's also important that the soil drains quickly = they don't like their roots sitting in water. You can also feed every 2-3 weeks with a half strength dilution of water soluable fertilizer (such as Miracle Gro). The flying insects are probably looking for nectar or just trying to find a place to rest. It's difficult to control flying insects so just discourage them whenever you see them hanging around. Good luck with your plants!
