I am interested in planting vegetables. The soil here is so different than when I gardened in Fl that I am not sure where to start.

Amending a garden bed is universal, regardless of where you garden. Start by spreading a 4-5 inch layer over the top of the garden bed and work it in to a depth of 8-10 inches. This nicely amended soil should support most any vegetable you decide to plant. For additional guidance, check out the following publication from Alabama Cooperative Extension: http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/...

Good luck with your garden!
