Mulches help slow water evaporation, moderate soil temperatures and suppress weeds. Virtually any organic material will make a good mulch (compost, shredded bark, bark chips, etc.) or you can use inorganic material such as rocks, gravel or rubber mulch. I prefer organic materials because they can be dug into the soil every few years and replaced. Just choose the material with the appearance you like best. Good luck with your landscape.
