The Q&A Archives: Lobelia hanging basket

Question: I purchased these beautiful hanging baskets for my front porch becasue they were for part shade.. they are watered daily and feed every other week, but now the branches are dying. Do you have any idea what I can do to save them .

Answer: Lobelia loves shade and should grow nicely in hanging baskets. Be sure they need water before automatically watering them everyday. While hanging baskets can dry out quickly, they may not need to be watered daily. If the soil remains too wet it can actually suffocate the roots. To encourage new growth cut your plants back by about one third. Then adjust your watering and they should perk up. Hope it's soon!
