If you want to use the area right away for planting, having the stump and adjacent roots ground is the best approach. This should be done by a professional, though, with the right power equipment. Or, you can plant trailing or vining plants around the stump and let them grow up and cover the stump. Wish there were another solution but if you build a raised bed without having the stump ground, the stump may send up suckers into your raised bed and you'll be constantly fighting the suckers. I'd vote for having the stump ground. Best wishes with your project!
