| If the blossoms are falling off without producing fruit, and if the fruit is aborting when it's small, it sounds as though the flowers are not being pollinated. Many factors can cause this - the most common are no insect activity due to cold or wet weather, or nighttime temperatures that are below 55F degrees. As the plants mature and the weather warms, all the blossoms should set fruit. If the fruit is rotting on the blossom end, it's might be a sign of blossom end rot. The affected fruit will have a water-soaked appearance at first. Then the spot enlarges and turns dark brown and leathery until it covers half the tomato. This problem is due to a calcium deficiency, often brought on by an uneven water supply. Try to keep the soil evenly moist by using a mulch and watering when needed. |
