I have a small area next to the house/garage where I'd like to plant a pretty tree that doesn't shed a lot (like creypte myrtles) and will not get over 20 ft. What do you suggest?

Have you considered a dwarf citrus tree? They have less litter than crape myrtles and produce seasonal flowers. Ornamental plum trees and ornamental pear trees are other evergreens that flower in the spring and have minimal litter. Hope one of these is just right for your landscape.
