| My husband and I just bought a house, and so I am now able to have a garden for the first time. I've been told by some of my friends that when herbs begin to flower that the buds should be snipped or else the flavor will change. Is this true in general? My cilantro is still very immature (or so I thought), but the tops have gotten feathery and it appears as though it is going to flower. Should I clip those and use it now, or will it mature further? |
| Your friends are right - keep the flower stalks cut down so your plants will continue to grow leaves. If you allow the flowers to form seeds, the plant will die. Cilantro is one of those plants that responds well to cutting - the more you harvest, the lusher the plant grows. Cut it back now or it will be too mature to enjoy. |
