Slugs and snails will feed on the petals of asters and mums; tarnished plant bugs can also be a problem; earwigs love to feed on the petals. Without knowing which pest, it's difficult to suggest a control remedy. Try to catch the culprits in the act. If you cannot identify them, take a few to your local cooperative extension office or well staffed nursery for help. Once you know what you're dealing with you can choose the right control. Best wishes with your plants!
