I have 2 clematis vines that I want to get rid of - it is too bushy & I want to replace them with something else. What is the best way to

The best way to remove the clematis is to cut them down and then dig out the root systems. If you try to kill them with chemicals they may resprout, plus you'll have the chemical residue that might prevent other things from growing in the spot. So, dig them out and you'll be rid of them once and for all.
