| RE shrubbery, mostly holly and juniper. Have yellow pine mulch beneath now. Is it a mistake to get an elec chipper/shredder & use clippings for mulch, making pine last longer? Will any of these seed? Thanks so much for help! |
| I can't think of any reason you should not shred or chip your landscape clippings and use them for mulch. I wouldn't intentionally use weeds or herbacious (soft) plants with the potential for going to seed. Instead, use evergreen branches or stems from plants that do not have flowers. When mulching, don't pile it up too close to the trunks or main stems of your hollies and junipers. It could cause rot if it holds too much moisture against the trunks. And keep the mulch less than about five inches thick. Anything thicker can shed water and the roots of your shrubs may not get the moisture they need. Aside from these cautions, I'd say chip away! |
