My tomatoes are skinny and producing very little as well as my cukes. I water often and though we are in a wooded area they get good morning and late day sun. Also, my squash and zuchini look good but produce little? |
Sounds quite disappointing! Your veggies will produce the maximum if they receive at least 8 hours of direct sunshine per day. If yours are getting less than that, I suspect that's the problem. There's really no substitute for sunshine. Adequate water, regular feeding and good soil should produce healthy plants, but sunshine and warmth is what dictates the flowering and fruiting abilities of your plants. You can try to absorb and reflect the amount of heat the sun provides by using a white floating row cover (sometimes called reemay) or laying black plastic over the ground beneath your plants. Covering the soil in this way will help the soil absorb and radiate heat back to your plants. That might be all your plants need to start producing. |
