| There are a few evergreen shrubs that might work in the site you describe: Taunton Yew (Taxus x media 'Tauntoni') grows 3-4' tall, 4-6' wide with a spreading shape. It grows in part shade to full shade, has dark green foliage. This spreading Yew has short, very dark green needles. It has shown excellent resistance to wind burn and is very hardy for the midwest. Bird's Nest Spruce (Picea abies 'Nidiformis') grows 3' tall and wide with a mounded form. The foliage is green. This popular Spruce features light green foliage on spreading branches that slightly nod at the tips. It is slow growing and very distinctive. Looks excellent in rock gardens. Dwarf Mugo Pine (Pinus mugo pumilio) grows 3-4' tall, 4-6' wide with a mounded habit. This popular Pine features soft, green foliage that forms a dense mound. It's a great evergreen for small spaces. Wintergreen Boxwood (Buxus m. 'Wintergreen') grows 2' tall and 2-3' wide with a globe growth habid. It will grow in full sun to full shade. This broadleaf evergreen has a lighter green, smaller leaf than some of the other popular Boxwood varieties. It makes a great hedge or specimen plant. Boxwood are susceptible to winter burn, so it is best to spray these shrubs with a product like 'Wilt-Pruf' in the fall to help prevent winter damage. Hope these suggestions help. |
