| I would like some information on Corkscrew Willow Trees, and will Oak sawdust mixed with my potting soil do any damage to my plants? |
| Willows in general need moist soil and full sun. One variety of corkscrew willow is 'Golden Curls'. This variety has golden bark, and the branches hang down like a weeping willow's. It grows to a height of about 30 feet. This variety in particular can withstand drier soils than most willows. I would avoid mixing sawdust into your potting soil. Fresh sawdust is very high in carbon, and as microorganisms work to break it down the use lots of nitrogen, which can cause a nitrogen deficiency in plants. It can also be quite acidic. If possible, compost it first my mixing with nitrogen-rich materials like manure and fresh grass clippings. Once it's been composted, it should make a fine addition, though you might want to test the pH of the resulting mix. |
