I have two tomato plants in the upside down basket and both have taken on a purple color and are dropping all blossoms. Is it a disease or lack of something?

A purple cast to the leaves indicates a nutrient deficiency (Phosphorus) so feeding your tomato plants should help. Tomato plants will drop their flowers (or not produce any at all) when temperatures are extreme. All you can do is wait for the weather to cool down a bit. Good luck with your garden!
