The Q&A Archives: Moving lilac bushes

Question: I have 2 Miss Kim lilac bushes that are 2 years old and about 4 feet tall that I would like to move. When is the best time to move them?

Answer: If your lilacs have finished blooming you can prune them back now, by as much as one third if that will make the move easier. You should be able to move them now, providing you dig it carefully so as not to sever too many roots, and if you keep them well watered until they re-establish in their new homes. Best wishes with the move!
