What are the names of the new varieties of delphiniums that do well in hot dry areas? I live in Sierra Madre,CA and my delphiniums do very poorly, despite a watering system where they are watered every day. However, I have them in full sun. Should I plant them in a more shady spot?

You're looking for Delphinium elatum 'New Millennium Strain', developed by Terry Dowdeswell of New Zealand. This series of delphiniums is more heat tolerant, easier to grow and longer lived than most delphiniums. The flower spike grows 6-7' tall. You can find them in blue, pink and white. Best wishes with your new plants!
