I have a medium sized redbud tree planted this spring. Why are the leaves turning yellow? It appeared to be healthy before this.

The leaves typically turn yellow during the fall months so I think your tree is just showing some signs of heat stress. It will take your redbud several months to become established in your landscape so you should expect it to be extra sensitive to hot or cold weather, and to water stress until it becomes well established. Just continue to water your redbud deeply once or twice a week and it should recover.
