Purple leaf plum trees will have the darkest color when grown in full sun, in rich, acidic, well draining soils. If yours is looking pale it could be due to excessive heat, inadequate water, or a need for fertilizer. You can apply a slow release 10-10-10 under the canopy of the tree. Since it's slow release, don't expect immediate improvement, but know that you are providing the nutrients your tree craves. Deep watering is important, especially during the summer months. I'm sure your tree will perk up soon.
