There are lots of shrubs to consider; Berberis thunbergii (Japanese barberry), Buxus hybrids (Green Mountain, Green Velvet, Wintergreen boxwoods), Callicarpa dichotoma (Purple beautyberry), Caryopteris x clandonensis (Blue mist shrub, blue caryopteris), Cotoneaster apiculatus (Cranberry conteaster), Deutzia hybrids (Pink Minor, Strawberry Fields, Magician, etc.), Diervilla sessilifolia (Southern bush-honeysuckle), Fothergilla gardenii (Dwarf fothergilla), and Genista pilosa (Silky-leaf woadwaxen) are all good choice. Best wishes with your new plants!
