I have a pot with Petunias and Marigolds. They are slowly dying, and have a soapy, iridescent residue. What is it? Pest?

The silvery residue is probably from slugs or snails. These pests feed at night so you rarely see them, but their damage is quite apparent. I use the iron based product called Sluggo. It works beautifully. Give it a try.
