Someone told me that by putting lime on your lawn it thickens the grass. And the thicker the grass gets the more it smothers out the weeds. This proceedure a person wouldn't have to use fertilizer. Any truth to this?

Lime changes the soil's pH. If your soil is acidic, lime will mellow it and make minerals and nutrients more available to the roots of your turfgrass. Before adding lime you should have your soil tested to see if it is too acidic. It's true that the thicker your lawn, the fewer the weeds. A thick stand of turf will crowd out weeds. To get a thick lawn you need to fertilize, water and mow on a regular basis. Hope this answers your question!
