Pittosporum Eugenioides (commonly known as a Lemonwood Tree) has a large bare spot on the backside of it. Tree is approx. 5 yrs. old. Someone told me it just needs pruning, however, lately I have noticed some of the small leaves are yellow with tiny brown spots on them. Some leaves are green with tiny brown spots. I believe I need to spray, but not sure what to spray for.

The brown spots sound like a fungal disease. I'd spray with a fungicide (Bonide Fungonil, Captan, etc.) according to label directions. Next spring you can prune your pittosporum back to help it fill in the bare spot. Best wishes with your landscape.
