The Q&A Archives: Delphinian broke off

Question: My delphinian broke off just below the ground when it was about a foot tall and growing well. What caused this.

Answer: I'm afraid the flowering stalk can get quite heavy when all the flowers are open, and a little wind, coupled with rain or water from the hose can make it snap off. Your delphinium should produce another, though smaller, flowering stalk to replace the broken one. Better luck next time!
