The Q&A Archives: Save my phlox?

Question: My phlox was doing great. Now the leaves are all shriveling up, brown, and moving up to the flower head. I water and we have had some rain. The soil is moist and it is in part shade.

Answer: I'm not sure what's going on with your phlox! I simply shear the plants to remove the spent flowers and stems. They will look more attractive and may even rebloom for you. Plus, trimming them back will remove any damaged plant parts and if there's a fungal disease working on them, trimming will remove that as well. Enjoy!
