When rose of sharon flowers are left on the plant they can form seeds which can fall to the ground and sprout. To stop this process, simply prune off the spent flowers before they set seeds, or just mow the little plants down when you mow the lawn. If you mow them down frequently they will die out. An alternative is to dig them out of the lawn. A broadleaf weed killer will also control them.
