I have some liatris which wasn't in the best when purchase. I pulled the brown foliage, and some of the flower recovered. But some has turned brown down 2 the root . Should I cut it back ?

I'm not sure it's ever a bargain to purchase unhealthy plants. Sometimes the damage they've suffered goes all the way down to the roots and if so, they may never recover, even with excellent care. Liatris needs full sunshine and well draining soils. You did the right thing by cutting away all the browning foliage. Go ahead and cut off the rest of the dead or dying foliage. About the only thing you can do now is to keep your plants watered regularly and hope the roots are healthy enough to send up healthy foliage. Good luck with your plants!
