The Q&A Archives: Caterpillers

Question: Caterpillers killing my Snow on Mt. bushes and general insect sprays don't seem to work. What should I use to eradicate?

Answer: The Snowbush Spanworm (White Tip Black Moth) favors snowbush plants. If you don't enjoy the colorful, slinky inchworms & pretty moths, a spray solution of a spinosad containing insecticide product, or B.t. (Dipel or Thuricide) will control the larvae but won't stop the adults from laying eggs. If you can time it right, you can drape a row cover material over the shrub during the few weeks that the adults are laying eggs.
