I live in the chicago area. Is there a type of Ficus tree that will grow in this climate? Also when is the best time to put down Grub X? Thank You Larry |
While most edible figs prefer a climate with winters warmer than central Illinois, Ficus carica 'Chicago Hardy' is the cultivar most often recommended for our zone 5 weather. The plants produce most abundantly with some winter protection. Late July or early August are the best times to apply Grub X, according to the University of Illinois. You should apply it now before you lose your window of opportunity. Best wishes with your landscape. |
