Should large, overgrown Lavenders be cut back? If so, when is the best time - Fall or Spring? These bloomed heavily & the spent flower stalks have been cut off. They have been in my garden for over 5 years. Thanks!

Spring is the best time to prune lavenders. You can trim them back by about a third without harm, but don't prune back to bare wood or no new stems and leaves will develop. You can shear them back again after flowering has finished. As long as you remove a few inches of the stems twice a year, your lavender should remain full and bushy and develop lots of fragrant flowers. Enjoy!
