The Q&A Archives: large aloe vera

Question: What will I need to do to repot. pot is to small

Answer: Choose a new container just one or two sizes larger than the current one, making sure it has adequate drainage holes. Use a fast draining cactus mix potting soil when you repot. The leaves on a large aloe vera can be overly heavy and can break off during repotting so you might try gently wrapping the plant to support the leaves during the replanting process. Start at the bottom and wrap gently around and around with soft material (strips of old sheets, for instance). After transplanting water well to settle the soil, place the plant back in its usual growing spot and remove the wrap. It should be happy in its new home.
