the plants red and green with a seed stalk 12 to 20 inches long..I showed a stem to someone in the business and he called it colorlou ..people in the caribean eat the leaves...Is this true?

I think your volunteer plant is probably amaranth. If so, in the Caribbean the leaves are called callaloo and are sometimes used in a soup called pepperpot soup.
